All States Parties have to submit regular reports on their efforts to guarantee all human rights enshrined in the Convention. The first report is due within two years of ratifying the Convention. Afterwards, state reports are due every four years. These state reports are public documents and are available, for example on the website of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Committee examines each report and addresses its concerns and recommendations to the State Party in the form of “concluding observations”.
NGOs play an important role in this process as well. They are heard before the sessions where the Committee considers the state reports and are invited to submit written information on their view of the human rights situation in the country. Individuals who are victims of violations of the Convention can therefore also report their situation to local and international NGOs which in turn can transmit the information to the States Parties and the Committee.
