The NGOs play an important role before the Committee. Its members meet the NGOs before considering the States reports. This informal role of the NGOs is organized by the Anti-Racism Information Service (ARIS).

Victims of racial discrimination are encouraged either to send directly a communication, if possible, or to contact a NGO which could offer its services before the Committee. All States having ratified the Convention must submit periodic reports.
