Protocol on the Rights of Women

The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa is also known as the Maputo Protocol. It guarantees comprehensive rights to women including the right to take part in the political process, the right to social and political equality with men and the right to control of their reproductive health. It also announces an end to female genital mutilation. The text was adopted in the form of a protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights by the African Union.

No means is provided so far to file a complaint against a State violating any of the provisions of the Maputo protocol.
