Engagement of NGOs in the Consideration of Periodic Reports to the Committee on the Rights of the Child

A broad range of NGOs is invited to take part in the Committee’s discussions about the rights of the child when considering the States reports. They are actively encouraged to submit to the Committee reports “alternative” to those of the States. The cooperation with NGOs is institutionalised by means of working groups which meet without the States before the sessions.

The individuals are vividly encouraged to report to NGOs violations of rights as laid down in the Convention on the Rights of the Child which can be transmitted to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

African States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child
