The Committee on Enforced Disappearance will be an autonomous committee consisting of ten independent experts, who are elected for a term of four years and shall be eligible for re-election once. It will monitor the implementation of the provisions of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
Article 30 provides for the possibility of an urgent appeal with the Committee by the relatives of a person or every person that is mandated by them, especially for a request to search for and find a disappeared person.

As of January 2010, the Convention has not yet entered into force. The Convention will enter into force after 20 States ratified or acceded to this Convention.
